Detail
As a theme with a long history in sacred art, “Pietà” has been depicted by countless artists in different ways, including Michelangelo, whose sculpture is a prominent example. However, the theme and the symbols, images, and the content involved have gained more meanings in the contemporary context than they had in the past. I used these elements to create a bizarre scene: Would the Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ, and Demon look alike? Is Michelangelo’s sculpture still considered a sculpture today? Could the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ have yellow skins? Does the image in front of us still make sense? Did I choose my way of looking at it? Who did all these?
